Do you love traveling to the big city?  There's something so full of life about the nation's biggest cities.  During a recent trip to NYC, we tried to think about what the streets would have looked like 100 years ago, without all the neon and bright store signs.  Here's what we found...

A view of 5th and 42nd Street in New York City at the turn of the century.  Take a nice look at all the detail:  women in full dresses, men in hats, shop wagons mixing with first-class coaches.  What a remarkable photo!  Hit Next to see the rest...

Farther downtown in NYC, we see this scene of the markets around 1900.  You can almost hear the clippity-cloppity of the horses and the sounds of various men unloading and loading goods.  

 

We have fond memories of spending time in Cincinnati as a kid, and this 1900 photo of downtown makes us nostalgic for the unique, eccentric city!

We've long-known New Orleans was a bastion of unique culture in America, but it's easy to forget that these cities have been vibrant for a long time.  Here's what the downtown looked like during Mardi Gras around 1900.  You can imagine what a crazy scene this must have been!

Ever wondered what Australia looked like during the same time?  Basically the same!  Here's a view of downtown Sydney Australia in 1900

This chaotic scene from Chicago in 1912 captures the conflict that was brought on by motor cars sharing the same streets with horses.  We can only imagine all the unique sounds and sights that happened here.  

 

We've long-been fascinated with Brooklyn.  This 1914 image shows a view of the Flatbush district looking down to the Brooklyn Bridge  Lovely.

Today Austin is one of the most vibrant, interesting towns in America, but it is easy to forget that it has been that way for a long time!  We love this view of the fun going on downtown around 1910.  

And who could forget the vibrant markets that made the city function.  This is a view of West Street in Lower Manhattan in 1907.
